Formal Wear: 10 Common Fashion Mistakes by Men

Formal fashion for men is not guided by any hardcore rules. Just that it has some basics to ensure that men don't go wrong with their formal attires. They are the basics, not rules. But still the unsaid, unwritten things often pave way for loopholes. Formal fashion for men is trendy and stylish, however, there are common fashion mistakes by men that are often disastrous. Check out the list of 10 common formal wear fashion mistakes by men.

10 Formal Fashion Mistakes by Men

1. Trousers' Length – Be careful to get the right length of the trousers. They should not be shorter than the required length, neither should they be too long. Long length of trousers makes the ends dirty and looks shabby. Short length trousers look weird too. Getting a right length and fit is utmost important.

2. Hanging Shirt Shoulders – Just like the trousers, formal shirt also needs to be the right size essentially. Loose hanging shirt shoulders look very shabby and bad. Make sure your formal wear fits you well in all the places.

3. Tie with Half Sleeves – Blunder! Do not team a necktie with a half sleeves shirt ever. A tie is always, always worn with a full sleeves shirt. Choose a tie color that goes with all your formal shirts. Usually half sleeves shirts are not preferred for formal wear, but in case it happens to be a half sleeves formal shirt, do NOT wear a necktie along.

4. Badly Knotted Tie – Another of the major formal wear mistakes by men is a badly knotted tie. When wearing a tie, make sure the tie is knotted the right way. It should be the right length to. A tie hanging too long or too short is incorrect. Check out the video to learn how to tie a windsor knot.

5. Bad Color Combination – This can't be taught. Choosing the right colors can be just guided with direction. But finally mixing and matching from the stuff in a particular wardrobe depends entirely on individual judgment. Do not go for extreme colors. Stick to light plain shirts and dark plain trousers whenever stuck.

6. Hanging Buttons & Threads – Check what you plan to wear before hand. No loose stitches, loose buttons, lousy zips, torn pockets or anything, everything with respect to your formal wear should be in place.

7. White Socks – When talking of formal fashion wear for men, white socks are a big no. Wear socks that match with the shoe color or the trouser color. Usually dark colors and plain patterns are preferred.

8. Unpolished Shoes – It's over done and overemphasized. Neat, clean and polished shoes are a must to go with men's formal fashion wear. Do not wear scruffy shoes, sneakers, sports shoes, floaters or obnoxious colors like white, red, green or yellow. Stick to brown and blacks for formal dressing.

9. Pocket Squares Gone Wrong – Badly folded pocket squares look funny. If you don't know how to fold a napkin square, don't wear it at all. But don't let your creativity play havoc with your formal wear.

10. Shirt Cuffs Visible from the Blazer – Another fashion faux pas! Shirt cuffs should never be visible if worn with a blazer. If they happen to be longer, fold them. Wearing formals nicely without any mistakes is an art. But practice makes everyone perfect. Take care of small things and it ain't that tough.
